St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church
Pastoral Council

Minutes for April 25th, 2007

Attendance: Fr. John Amsberry, Dan Baisley, Claire Clow, Lynette Loumena, David Mastroieni, Cliff Jensen, Lori Burmester, Greg Kenney, Marci Burton, Tim Cook, Cathy Keathley

Opening:

Father John led the group in prayer.

David Mastroieni called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM.

Presentation - Parish Vocations

Guests: Sister Charlene, Bob and Lynn Jones
The presentation centered on the work of the Serra Club and the Archdiocesan Vocation Committee. There are currently 22 parishes with active vocation committees and it is Archbishop Vlazny's goal to have a committee in every parish. We were encouraged to consider forming a committee in our parish. If our parish is interested, Sr Charlene, Bob, and Lynn offered to come back to help establish our committee.

Old Business:

God’s Stewardship project – David met with Mike Caldwell to discuss the seven ministries illustrated in this project. The purpose of the ministries is to bring structure and focus to the Council going forward. The actual objectives will be discussed at the fall retreat.

Pastoral Council Elections - To date, a total of 8 nominees to fill 4 vacancies. A bulletin board will be created with pictures and biographical information of the candidates for display the weekend of May 12-13. The actual elections will take place May 19-20.

New Business:

No new business.

Roundtable:

Father John - How can we reach out with Jesus in public school setting (Serendipity)? Ideas included having a parishioner on the school board, sponsor a graduation party, make the students a focus of the Stewardship Project, adopt a child (pray for them, send cards and small gifts etc.), and invite a school representative to speak at a Council meeting.

Lori - With the bankruptcy settlement the charges against priests will be made public. How to model forgiveness and healing in our community?

Marci - Reminder that this Council has the Greeter role responsibility every third weekend.

Adjournment:

Next meeting: Wednesday, June 6th, 2007, 6 PM, end of the year Potluck in the Social Room.

Father John led the closing prayer. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 PM.
