Bread of Life

Prayer...

Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man to God to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms, or from the heart. Consider these words as if God were speaking them to His children...

"It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much; it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother."

~God your Father~

He Gave His Only Son

"Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

John 21:29

Spreading the Word spiritually, creatively, inspirationally, and historically on a weekly basis, by St. Joe's own parishoners

Read Scripture

by Claire Clow

When we write for the weekly word, we share our thoughts or stories about our Faith. This week I'm going to share a prayer I read because I feel it expresses the needs of this world so strongly.

Lord Jesus, once you spoke to men
Upon the mountain, in the plain;
O help us listen now, as then,
And wonder at your words again.

once you spoke to men....
...upon the mountain, in the plain.

We all have secret fears to face,
Our minds and motives to amend;
We seek your truth; we need your grace,
Our living Lord and present Friend.

The Gospel speaks, and we receive
Your light, your love, your own command.
O help us live what we believe
In daily work of heart and hand.

We all have secret fears to face ...
...we seek your truth; we need your grace.

I'm sure the people that read these articles also read the Scriptures, but I'd like to challenge us to convince a member of our family or one of our friends that does not ever pick up the bible to start. Maybe suggest reading together or separately but then discuss together or email each other what we felt as we read. If each of us can get one person to do this, then after it becomes a daily or weekly habit maybe you can suggest that they get one person to do the same. We could start a whole movement. "O help us listen now, as then, and wonder at your words again."
