Bread of Life

Prayer...

Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man to God to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms, or from the heart. Consider these words as if God were speaking them to His children...

"It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much; it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother."

He Gave His Only Son

"Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

John 21:29

Follow the Leader

by By Deacon Mike Caldwell

Following anyone can be difficult and we have many reasons for doing so. We have to follow the supervisor at our employment if we want to keep our job. But that kind of following is not from the heart necessarily. When we say we are followers of Jesus Christ, we do so of our own free will and hopefully from the heart. However, unlike employment, there is no contract or agreement that dictates how much we have to follow Jesus Christ. Or is there?

...we do so of our own free will
...and hopefully from the heart.

In the Old Testament, the Israelites had a covenant with God. That is an agreement with God that the people would follow His commandments and God would continue to support them. The people were not very good at following that agreement so God made the ultimate sacrifice and sent His Son as the new covenant. A covenant is more than a contract though. A covenant is a personal commitment made on both sides. Much like a marriage, we made a commitment with Jesus that we will make a decision everyday to love Him and He will love us.

...we will make the decision every day...
...to love Him and He will love us.

Since no one is checking on our performance, only you and God know how well you are doing with your relationship with Jesus. That makes it tough. When we are not held accountable to terms, we tend to get lazy and let our relationship with Jesus take a back seat. Jesus is your leader, you better not let that relationship falter. Jesus asked his followers at one point, "Do you want to leave me?" Peter answered, "Where else would we go, you have the words of eternal life."
