Bread of Life

Prayer...

Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man to God to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms, or from the heart. Consider these words as if God were speaking them to His children...

"It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much; it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother."

~God your Father~

He Gave His Only Son

"Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

John 21:29

God Is Love

by Deacon Mike Caldwell

It is not always clear what love means to individuals because there is a wide array of possibilities for the meaning of the word. We use the word pretty freely. We can actually love pizza. However, the author of the letter from John gives us a pretty good definition of what love means to God.

John gives us a pretty good definition...
...of what love means to God.

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his Son into the world so that we might have life through him. 1 John 4:7-9

Whoever is without love...
...does not know God.

Love is a selfless act. God sent His only Son for us; each and every one of us. In the secular society, love often means a selfish act. For us, love can mean that thing that makes me feel good. Too often we base love on our feelings and feelings can come and go. If I don't feel like loving my spouse this day or this week or this year, our marriage can fail. If I don't feel like serving the poor on behalf of God, my commitment to my neighbor can falter.

The way God loves us is how we should love each other. We don't love based on how we are feeling; love is an act of the will. We choose to love our spouse this day and all days no matter how we feel. We choose to love our neighbor no matter how we feel about their predicament.

Let Christmas continue...
