Bread of Life
Prayer...

Prayer is, in the strictest sense, a humble religious petition of man to God to seek divine benevolence and benefits he needs for life, both temporal and eternal. It is a conversation with God, either by accepted prayer forms, or from the heart. Consider these words as if God were speaking them to His children...

"It is not necessary my child, to know much in order to please me much; it is enough that you love me fervently. Speak here to me then, as you would speak to your most intimate friend, to your mother, to your brother."

He Gave His Only Son

"Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

John 21:29

Labor Day

by Mike Caldwell

As I was reflecting on the meaning of Labor Day this past week, I can across a framework for Economic Life issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

"The economy exists for the person, not the person for the economy. A fundamental moral measure of any economy is how the poor and vulnerable are faring.

All people have a right to life and to secure the basic necessities of life (e.g. food, clothing, shelter, education, health care, safe environment, economic security).

All people have the right to economic initiative, to productive work, to just wages and benefits, to decent working conditions, as well as to organize and join union or other associations."

...all people have a right to life
all people have the right to economic initiatiave...

All too often we associate the health of the economy with how well we and our family is faring. It is only natural to have feelings about our own comfort and those we love. We have to consider the comfort, security, and fear that a lot of other people have that do not have just wages, benefits, or decent working conditions.

...we associate the health of the economy ...
with how well we and our family is faring...

Praise God for the work that you have and the dignity that you enjoy and pray to God that all citizens of the world can have the dignity warranted to a people created in the image of God.
