St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church
Pastoral Council

Minutes for January 10, 2007

Attendance: Fr. John Amsberry, Dan Baisley, Claire Clow, Lynette Loumena, David Mastroieni, Cliff Jensen, Lori Burmester, Tim Cook, Marci Burton

Opening:

Father John led the group in prayer/reflection.

David Mastroieni called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM.

Old Business:

Archdiocesan Pastoral Assembly – David, Claire, and Father John represented St Joseph the Worker. The Archdiocese is divided into vicariates, with 1 representative from each vicariate serving on the Archdiocesan Assembly. The focus of their work will be Faith Formation, Evangelization, and Youth. David will be the representative from this parish.

Evangelization – only 3 parishioners are actively going door-to-door doing a parish census.

Council visibility – meeting minutes posted on Parish website. Dave will write an article for the Newsletter.

New Business:

Deacon Project – Mike Caldwell presented his project, titled “God’s Stewards”. His project is based on 4 pillars: Prayer/Morality, Social Justice, Heart and Spirit, and Community. Mike will report back his conclusions, recommended changes, and a list of parish strengths and weaknesses.

Spring Vicariate Meeting – as directed by the Archbishop, pastoral councils and parish priests in each vicariate will meet jointly to discuss/plan ways to meet the focus items of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Assembly. St Joseph the Worker will host the East County Spring meeting, on April 14th.

Bankruptcy litigation – a settlement is expected in the near future.

Family Prayer Night – in response to the Archdiocesan Assembly’s focus on faith formation. Claire presented the following format:

  • Dinner – sponsored by different groups in the parish

  • Bible study – groups of adult, teens, children by ages groups

  • Dessert
  • Filipino community – Father reminded us of the need to outreach to our Filipino parishioners but isn’t sure how to make that happen. Council members were asked to be especially aware of these parishioners and how we might meet their needs.

Parish Mission – Father announced that on March 19-21 we would have a Parish Mission led by Father Patrick Mowrer.

Relationship Building series – Father has been approached by Angela and Ruth Hayes, Christian Counselors, who have a federal grant to offer a 3 part series on Relationships and Relationship Building. There are currently many projects/events going on in the parish. Questions of interest in the subject matter and timing were unanswered.

    Adjournment:

Next meeting: Thursday, February 15, 2007, 6 PM, in room 3.

Father John led the closing prayer. Meeting adjourned at 7:03 PM.

Minutes prepared by Marci Burton, Recording Secretary
