St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church
Pastoral Council

Minutes for January 28th, 2009

Attendance
Father John, Patti LaRue, Lillian Erwin, David Mastroieni, Lori Burmester, Marlene Meyers, Janet Rathbone, Mark Butler, Mike Jefferies

Not in Attendance
Darlene Greiner, Tim Cook

Meeting began at 6:00 pm

Opening
Father led the group with the opening prayer.

Father and council prayed for the youth who were killed and injured at the night club in Portland.

Father asked council members to share a blessing in their lives with everyone.

Old Business
Approval of November minutes.

Helping Hands Update – Father would like for this to be on our property and then have other churches helping out and working with us on this project.

The building would be placed here on the church grounds behind the church. It would be a metal prefab building which would combine furniture and food for the needy.

Need to recruit volunteers and donations from other churches and other faiths to perhaps get involved with the community project.

Will need volunteers to man the center 10 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday and on Saturdays.

It was suggested that Deacon Jim from Christ the King come and speak in front of the council to explain how his church was able to set up their Helping Hands.

Christ the King's total cost for their center was quoted to be around $90,000.00.

It was also suggested that someone from the council tour their facility to get an idea of what our church could do.

David will talk with Deacon Mike about getting Deacon Jim to come to one of our council meetings.

Ecumenical Outreach – Patti LaRue noted that St. Timothy Lutheran Church showed some outside interest in our Back to Prayer Night program.

New Business
2009 Elections to the Council – Lori Burmester will be handling the process along with Lillian Erwin, who will handle the 2010 and at that time will ask someone to work with her on it. There are four positions that need to be filled.

Three of the positions will be chosen by the council and parishioners through discernment. Father will choose the 4th member that's needed.

Lillian and Lori will try to begin explaining to the parishioners in more depth about how discernment works and that everyone is encouraged to attend and help choose the three new members to the council.

The campaign will begin in March and the discernment to choose the new members will be in May.

Archdiocese Council Update - David noted that the Archdiocese is putting a booklet together for pastoral councils and this will be available in November of this year.

Also David mentioned that the Archdiocese Pastoral Council will be needing new members and members from all churches pastoral councils are asked to attend the Assembly in November of this year. There will be more information on this in the future.

Patti asked for prayers from everyone for Sharon Standley who has been and is still very ill.

Father asked that FOCA information be put on the front page of the church website. Patti will take care of that.

Closing Prayer
Father John led the closing prayer
