Opening
Father talked a little on how big the 54 Years Celebration is going to be and how it could draw thousands of people just to see Matt Maher. Also mentioned how well the church website is doing and how many people it is reaching on a daily basis.

Old Business
Approved April minutes.

New Business
Discernment Process - It was agreed that the discernment process for electing the new members to the council was an overall success. Still a few bugs to work out and it was suggested that the next process needs to be explained in more detail to parishioners so that they completely understand that they are invited to the discernment to listen to the nominees, to participate in the prayerful time in the church and finally to vote. It was also suggested that perhaps bios should once again be available for the parishioners to read prior to the discernment. Maybe as an insert in the bulletin.

Ministry Sunday - This is scheduled to take place September 7th, and Father suggested that it also take place on Saturday, September 6th, at the 5:30 pm Mass as well. Patti will inform all ministry heads of this change in plans at the next meeting on August 24th. Bulletin reminders for the meeting and Ministry Sunday will be placed in the August 10th and August 17th bulletins.

Anniversary Celebration - Patti explained that there is so much going on that there wasn't time to cover it all at this meeting and will write up a detailed outline that will accompany the minutes. Highlights were KFIS radio station will be promoting the Matt Maher concert, they will also hold a contest where listeners can win his new CD and as a winner they will be able to participate in a "Meet and Greet" Matt at their booth they will have set up at the event. They will be there during the event leading up to the concert but will take down the booth just prior to the concert starting. They also will request an interview with Matt by Pete and Brenda and that they will edit this and air several times prior to event followed by his newest song each time. KBVM will also do 2 live phone interviews with Matt. His manager Kat Davis said she can arrange one two weeks prior and two days prior to the concert. Both Kat Davis and Kenny Butler, Matt's guitarist have stressed over and over again for us not to stress over the finances, that this will happen and any financial burden we find difficult to meet, they will do everything in their power to help out with. They want this to be a blessing to the community not a burden.

2008 East Portland Vicariate Meeting - David, Patti and Darlene will be attending this meeting to represent St. Joseph the Worker. Points of interest that should be discussed at this meeting should be Social Justice and Immigration, Pray All-Ways Committee/Back to Prayer Night. It was decided that Patti will speak as representative for St. Joseph the Worker Parish.

Recognition - David recognized and thanked Cathy Keathley and Cliff Jensen for their work on the council for the past 3 years and special recognition was given to Bill Standley.

Introduction - New members were introduced and welcomed to the committee and all members were asked to introduce themselves and name one thing they were blessed by in their lives.

Dates Set - Dates were set for the next meeting and for the planning meeting. The council will begin meeting again on September 17, 2008 and the October Planning Meeting will be held October 18th, 2008. The meeting will be held at Lillian Erwin's home and a pot luck breakfast will be held beginning at 9:00 am.

Round Table:
Patti announced that Back to Prayer Night has been canceled for July, August, and September to free her up for both the camp out and celebration planning. It will return October 30th, with Father as speaker. The last one will be held June 26th, with Mike Caldwell as speaker and will be an open pot luck affair for the church.

Mark Butler brought up security issues with a mentally handicapped person causing problems at church. Father John stated that John Hren is working on the problem.

Adjournment
Father ended meeting with closing prayer.

Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm
