"Through one man sin entered the world and with sin death."

Romans 5:12

If you try to put a frog in a pot of boiling water it will immediately jump out. If a frog is put in mild water and that water is slowly turned up until it is boiling, the frog will stay in it until it boils to death. It as if the frog becomes numb to the progression of the warm water until the boiling takes its very life. Does this numbing sound familiar in what has happened spiritually in our world?

We have lost the sense of sin. The constant bombardment by the media is to live without answering to the fact that there is objective truth. There is a right and wrong and that is the moral code by which we choose to conduct ourselves with. The moral code, or I should say lack of, we are constantly indoctrinated with by a majority of communications is that you live for yourself and consume all the pleasures that present themselves. Through the constant messages we have been lulled and numbed into a paradigm that “anything goes.”

By losing our sense of sin, our love for God and each other is destroyed. We know that when sin first entered the world so did death. That is what sin seeks to do- to bring death to our relationship with God and others. As followers of God, do you not think that we would want to do whatever we could get rid of sin so that our relationships would be fully alive?

Pray for a sense of your sin. God will show you. There are many other ways you can learn about your sin. Learn the moral teachings of the church and why she teaches what she teaches. Dig and seek to understand the essential and often rejected teachings regarding sexuality, abortion, birth control, euthanasia, social justice, employment, immigration, war etc. A good examination of conscience can help you to see your sin. Also, living with other Christians who are trying to eradicate sin from their lives can help you to feel your sin and take ownership for it.

If our behavior comes into conflict with our moral code, one of them has to go. With all the moral numbing and loss of a sense of sin, have we thrown out the moral code?
