Prior to Meeting
Deacon Mike led the group in one decade of the rosary.
New Business
It was suggested that confession times might be changed or that confession times from the surrounding churches be posted on the website. Some people just can’t make the 3:30 pm one that St. Joseph offers. Father did remind the council that confessions can be done by appointment as well.
It was suggested that the Pray All-Ways Campaign continue and to see if Becky could be involved by reaching out to those who want to be on the prayer chain via email instead of a phone list.
Need to reach out to the Filipino community more, try to get them involved more, seem to be grouped together in the Social Room during 10:30 am mass and not many seem to sit in the church. Deacon Mike suggested that the church should hold an International Pot Luck which of course would include the Filipino community.
Nancy volunteered to talk to several Filipino members of the church to get more suggestions on how to reach out to their community.
Old Business
Marlene is still working on the badges, design is done just waiting for their delivery. Everyone will receive the new badges not just the newest members.
Approved the September minutes.
Deacon Mike will be working on the warming center that the church wants to open up in the basement. He said it would be open from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. Said that he would need volunteers that would be willing to stay the night to watch over things. He’ll have to coordinate this with the County before going further with the plan.
The issue of Catholic singles was again brought up. Janet said that there were a lot of things that went on for singles at other churches and perhaps there should be a Catholics Singles section put on the website. Bill volunteered to look into trying to set something up for singles at St. Joseph.
Patti brought up that there are times that Darcy Clendenning, who is in charge of Coffee and Donuts, has trouble getting volunteers. Has had problems getting groups from the church to help out. So far the only group that has helped has been the Altar Guild. Nancy Anderson said that she would contact her and let her know some of the council members will help.
Archdiocese Pastoral Council Meeting – Lillian Erwin to look into what time and where it is being held.
Round Table
Father said that this year being the year of the priest, that he said he is so blessed by everyone he works with and comes in contact with.
Council said that Father should be given an anniversary party, but Father said he doesn't feel he needs anything. Bill suggested a years supply of massages. Father did seem to like that suggestion.
There's an issue with the bathrooms. Suggested they be remodeled. They back up at times and the smell, even when cleaned is very bad.
Darlene mentioned that the upstairs kitchen needs to be remodeled as well. It's the one place that people see a lot of and it’s used continually and is really in need of repair. Father John will talk to Joe about new appliances for the kitchen. Bill is to follow up on getting a new cross for top of church, will talk to Joe about this issue.
Suggested that the area for St. Vincent de Paul’s might be enlarged. Also maybe made warmer in the winter time.
It was suggested that there might be a choir that is specially designated for Saturday Mass, for whenever the choir can’t show up for Saturday. The council believes that the Saturday Mass should have music just like the 10:30 am Mass has. Also, Patti stated that a lot of parishioners have approached her and complained when the choir has not been there. Deacon Mike said all that would be needed would be one guitar and one or two singers. Patti will try to set up a meeting with Kathy Harris to discuss with her what the council has suggested.
Future Meetings: Dec. 9th, Feb. 10th, Mar. 10th and Apr. 14th
Closing Prayer
Father John led the closing prayer.
Meeting adjourned at 11:45 am
