1.   Introduction – Role of the Council

  • The role of the Parish Council is Pastoring of the Parish – the Council becomes the eyes and ears of the Parish Community – addressing the needs of the parish, retrieving ideas and leading the implementation of the ideas into our parish community. We also facilitate the process for more parishoneers to become involved with various events and committees in the Parish.
  • One of the Council’s top priorities in 2006-07 will be to outreach to the Parish – communicating the role of the Council as well as retrieving ideas and needs. We will do this focusing on the following strategies;
  • Father John will speak in his homily the weekend of November 4-5, 2006 on Parish involvement, the role of the Council, and Community. At that time, Council members will distribute a brief questionnaire to the congregation for the purpose of identifying parish needs as well as establishing a process for identifying those in the parish that would be interested in becoming more involved.
  • Completed questionnaires will be returned to a box that will be set up at the entrance of the church. We will review the questionnaires at our next Parish Council meeting – November 8, 2006 at 6:00 pm.
  • All Council members should wear our Council I.D. badges at ALL Parish events and masses.
  • We will establish a Parish Council Column in the Parish Newsletter – published quarterly.
  • We will have a presentation board available at the Church that will have pictures of the Council and contact information.
  • We will produce a handout that briefly describes the committees with contact information.
  • 2.   Other Key Issues

    Evangelism

  • Legion of Mary chapter has been formed at St. Joseph The Worker through Bob Nyssen. Father John will work with Bob’s group on the evangelism program – report progress to the Council and determine future needs.

  • Bolster Youth Activities and Involvement

  • Sunday High School Youth Group

  • Stuebenville

  • Thursday Night Praise and worship Session for Youth

  • Young Adults Program – focus on college students when visiting during holidays and vacation
  • Men’s Group

  • Establish Men’s Group to meet on a Saturday morning every other month at the Parish for an hour to hour and a half – focusing on prayer, leadership of the family, various issues. Father John will facilitate the session and invite speakers periodically that include finance, marriage, family, balancing jobs with family life, and other issues.
