Opening
Father led the group prayer.
Father expressed how blessed he is to be at St. Josephs, coming into the office with such a loving staff and parishioners. He felt very good about the youth and how well they did selling baked goods for their trip to Mexico this summer. He expressed how blessed he is to have organizations in the parish that work so hard for him and the parish. He was very pleased with the sign ups for the Womens Retreat scheduled for April 12th. Said there were about 75 women signed up to participate. Also mentioned the Confirmation Mass that was to take place on Thursday, April 10th. He mentioned that there would also be 12 baptisms the weekend of April 12th & 13th.
David Mastroieni called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm
Old Business
Approved February minutes.
Council Election Process Cathy Keathley has made some minor changes in the council by-laws. She will send them out to the council via e-mail and we can vote on them. The process will mirror that of the electing of a new Pope. Lori Burmester will speak at all the masses to announce the start of the nomination process. She will speak about listening to see if God is inspiring them or someone they know to put their name in for nomination.
On April 19th and 20th ballots will be made available in the Narthex to fill out and put in a box.
Lori has been trying to get Brother McNabb to help us with this process. Father John said if he is not available to do this that he would be willing to do it instead.
There are two dates for the discernment process, May 31st from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm or June 2nd from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. At this process, we will invite all the nominees to join us to talk, pray, and have a potluck meal together. After which the council will vote. The council will vote for two and Father will choose the third.
Pray All-Ways Campaign Update The new campaign the Prayer Tree is nice and appears that parishioners are putting their prayerful thoughts on it. It was reported that the number of members of the original committee have dwindled, but those that remain continue to work hard and are devoted to the campaign.
50+ Years Celebration Father John expressed that he wants this to be an evangelizing event. He would like for the Mass and concert to be out front. He is hoping for around 2,000 people. He is not concerned about the parking. Matt Maher will cost $4,000 for the whole day. Christian Supply is helping Father John with this part of the celebration.
There may be Veggie Tale characters there for the children.
Father John also expressed that he would like to bring in food venders in lieu of a BBQ. He would rather see everyone enjoying the event and not working most of the time. He would also like other Christian churches to attend as well. There will likely only be one Mass that weekend.
Possibility of rain was discussed and even if the weather is warm covering may still be needed. So a plan for this will be set up.
Ministry Sunday Only a few people attended the first meeting, but the small group went a head and voted on a date to have this take place. It will take place on September 7th after both the morning Masses. A common form was created for each organization to use to explain their group to those who might be interested in joining. This form has already been sent out to all the ministries by Patti LaRue.
Round Table: Handicapped Signs in Pews Mark Butler said that people are confused about the signs and perhaps its because they are too small and we might want to consider making them bigger and easier to read.
Parking Lot Lillian Erwin said that parishioners are asking when the lines are going to be painted in the parking lot.
Bill Standley A few moments were dedicated to remembering Bill. Several members expressed what he meant to them. Everyone agreed that he is a huge loss to the parish in many aspects.
Father said that Sharon will continue to be on the team groups. He also expressed that we should not forget her. To call or visit her. But most of all we should pray for her.
Adjournment
There will be no council meeting in May.
Father John led the closing prayer.
Meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
