Minutes for September 23, 2009

Meeting began at 6:00 pm
Opening
Father John led the group in the opening prayer prior to eating.
Introductions
Mike Jefferies asked everyone to introduce themselves and share their different talents they bring to the council. Mike commented on the diversity within the group.
New Business
State of the Parish – Joe Bonneville was present to update the council on the church finances. Finances for the month are $6,000.00 in the black. And for the quarter $57,000.00 behing. There is are funds in the checking account held aside for others totally $168,000.00.
Joe also mentioned that Serendipity still wants to rent the classrooms even with their remodeling of the school.
Joe said that the new paint job for the church was done by all volunteers. Next thing needed would be to replace the cross on the steeple. The cost of the cross would be relatively cheap but the installation would be quite spendy.
Also it was mentioned that the basement needs a new floor and the kitchen in the basement needs new counters and they are wanting to make them stainless steel.
They are also considering converting the oil boiler to a different source of heat.
Purpose of the Pastoral Council – Father first talked about all the goodness there is at St. Joseph and how blessed he's been since he's been here and that he was suppose to be moved onto a different parish this year but the Archbishop changed his mind.
The main purpose of the council is to find out the needs of the parishioners, this is key to helping Father John to know their needs. The council should focus on how to get people engaged in the church and to focus on their strengths helping them find something they can be a part of. We are to be the eyes and ears of Father John.
We need to bring it to Father's attention those who have special talents.
Badges – Marlene came up with designs for a different type of council badge. It was determined that each person's name should be on the badges. It was suggested to buy bulk without names then have them engraved with names each time there are new members.
Round Table
It was mentioned that members of Pastoral Council should be present during Ministry Sunday. It was suggested that Father introduce all the council members at each Mass.
Need help with St. Vincent de Paul as well as more altar servers needed.
Deacon Mike suggested that a warming center should be set up in the basement when the weather is freezing.
Father wants to invite someone from Serendipity to speak at all the Masses to explain exactly what they do.
