Minutes for September 8th, 2010

Meeting began with dinner at 5:30 pm

Opening
Father John led the group in the opening prayer prior to having dinner.

New Business
It was suggested that we wear our badges at mass to increase visibility. The Pastoral Council Members will be on the schedule as greeters for the second Sunday of the month.

Ministries Fair there will be a table for all ministries and all leaders are asked to have someone at each mass to "man" the tables. 9/18 Saturday 5:00 pm mass Dianne

How do we increase involvement? The question of how to increase involvement from groups at church was discussed.

-An International Potluck was suggested. A possible person to contact was Kathleen Norton who organizes International Rosary. Filipinos are busy Aug-Oct. possibly some time in Nov. on a Saturday night? Nancy will follow up with Altar Guild about dates.

Have Faith Formation classes make placemats for dinner

-Ringing of the Bell? The Angelus
-Nativity Scenes represented by different cultures (Filipinos, Asians, Samoans)
-No Youth Group at St. Therese perhaps an outreach opportunity?
-Have “You Are Loved” signs made in different languages

Old Business
RCIA begins in October continue to encourage people to participate

Community and the Poor
How to increase outreach? Missionaries of Charity are looking at coming to Portland. They need to have a focus to come here. Poor in our Neighborhood how do we present this to the parish? "Make The Poor Your Teachers" If you focus on the poor it will build community. Start small and grow from there.

-To start a Warming Center there is equipment to buy, how to find volunteers to staff it on short notice.

-Ministries to the poor: St. Vincent de Paul needs to increase participants

Church facilities

The steeple repair will have to be subcontracted out. Pat Martinez is working with Joe to find people to do repair.

Upstairs kitchen update/remodel is in process. New appliances have been purchased and new countertop will be installed

Bathroom flushing issues, old building and plumbing not sure how to resolve

Round Table
Father said that this year being the year of the priest, that he said he is so blessed by everyone he works with and comes in contact with.

Outreach to Soldiers continues

Marketing of what ministries we have

-Flyers of all the ministries with a small blurb of what they do and a contact name and phone number Bill will work on a rough draft for next meeting.

Young Adults (out of high school and up) how to include?

How to get leaders from each group/ministry to get together to talk about the big picture/focus?
