Sun Catchers

Time Required: 20 minutes

You'll need:
Yellow, black, red, white, green tissue paper, waxed paper, permanent marker, scissors, iron, towel, green yarn, paper punch

Directions:
First, discuss what each color of tissue paper means:
yellow: God's promise of heaven
black: Sin
red: Forgiveness
White: Purity and Cleansing
Blue: Baptism
Green: Growing with Jesus

Using a 6"-8" plate, trace the plate, making a circle on the waxed paper, with the permanent marker. The waxed paper should be cut in 12" widths. Cut each sheet of tissue paper in 1-inch strips and the length of the sheet. Give each child one strip of each color. The kids cut different shapes from the strips and place them on to the center of the waxed paper circle: wherever they wish.(They can make designs or just scatter them here and there on the waxed paper). Lay a folded towel on a table. Place the waxed paper with the tissue shapes on top of the towel. Place another 12-inch square of waxed paper on top of the first waxed paper with the tissue on it. This forms a sandwich with the tissue inside. Using a heated iron, press the waxed paper, fusing the 2 pieces together. This takes less than 1 minute. Cut on the circle and throw the excess waxed paper in the trash. Punch holes close to the outside of the circle, about 1 inch apart, all the way around. Lace the green yarn through the holes. Leave about 5 inches from both the beginning of the yarn and the end of the yarn so that you can tie a bow and hang in a window. Let the sun shine in helping you to grow with Jesus!
