He served during WWI and afterwards was sent to China.

My mother was born in Russia and during the Russian Revolution, she escaped to China where she was a little servant girl to an aristocratic Russian family. Then she met my father.

 

I had, two older sisters who died before I was born from various diseases. I also have an older brother.

When I was a baby, I became very ill. When my father came to the hospital he was told by the nurse that I had died. He rushed to my room and he said I was ice cold. He told me he knealt by my bed and prayed. “Please, God, I have already lost two little girls, please don’t take this one.” He was rubbing my hands and feet and felt the warmth come back in. He go so excited and in his wonderful Polish accent rushed into the hall and shouted “Nurse, Nurse, my little girl is ALIVE!”
