Kathy I really like the idea for a talent show during the BBQ.

I think we need to decide on a date when there should be tryouts so I can announce it several times in the bulletin. And then there should be a couple of practices for the talent show prior to the event.

I think we should really go with it because I think people would get a kick out of it.

You know what we could do, is offer prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place and let the people vote on their favorite talent act. Or just first place getting a prize and the 2nd & 3rd place winners could be given framed certificates....I could easily make the certificates and just grab a couple of document frames from the Dollar Tree.

This kind of thing goes with the way Father is always wanting people to be involved so this gives a community involvement flair to it.

It has been suggested to me that the talent show auditions be like American Idol. While I thought this idea had merrit and would be quite fun, I worry that we would have a Negative Simon. But I think it would be wise to have 3 or 5 'judges' to rate and rank the auditions.

We will also need to consider the length of time the talent show will be using. 1 Hour? We will then need to make sure that all acts do not exceed a certain amount of time to make sure we have time alotted to each performance.

I think that July may be a good time to have these auditions. I am thinking any time after July 20th. Use the last week for auditions. That way the performers have over a month to perfect their performances and we will be able to figure out how much time they have on stage.

This also gives us a few months to talk it up to the congregation.

I've witnessed quite a few singing contests and you know what, it almost always results in resentment. Sour losers. But sometimes sour losers have reason to feel bad for not winning. Incompetent judges, favoritism, etc. And the prize we're offering, a certificate, is not worth coveting. Contestants want cash, the bigger the better or trophy or something expensive like HDTV. Just my opinion.

We're not judging those who are participating. Kathy and I have decided that would not be fair to anyone, don't want anyone feeling resentful as you said. It's all for fun and enjoyment! The only thing we will do is have try outs where there will be a panel of judges (not from the choir but just parishioners that might like to do this) who will pick the acts to perform. We felt the choir members would be too critical of those trying out. We need people who might know better what the parishioners would like seeing.

I guess we should have posted here that there will be no judging during the show. But hey, it is now.
