The Duties of the Decorating Committee Are As Follows:

1. Decide on an overall color scheme.
2. Design and make an Exhibit entrance sign outside the entrance to the church.
3. Design and make an Exhibit sign for the entrance to the Social Room.
4. Decorate the street sign.
5. Decorate the entrance table at the beginning of the exhibit, including an attractive centerpiece.
6. Provide the entrance table with a guest book for visitors to sign.
7. Design 11 centerpieces for the 11 exhibit tables. An idea would be to make each centerpiece reflect the decade that the exhibit table is representing. The centerpieces shouldn't be too big, but big enough that people realize that it's a centerpiece and not part of the historical items.
8. Will work closely with the historical committee on setting up and taking down of the exhibit the night before and the day after the event.
9. Help Kathy Harris, the music/concert chairperson decorate the stage for the concert.
10. Set up an indoor and/or out door activities area for the children. Perhaps come up with creative activities to keep them busy when there may be a lull during the day. Coordinate with Janet Rathbone on getting some of her youth to help with this.
11. Set up a "Gift Shop" table to sell promotional items like URLD T's & Sweatshirts, Father's book, bumper stickers. Also contact Vincent in the choir for more items that can be sold as well. Delegate someone from your committee to work the Gift Shop in shifts.

Other ideas discussed with me.

Get a Faris Wheel and have it running in the far South West corner, in the Serindipity small parking lot. This will draw people. I doubt this would be free though for the public.

Get a huge blow up slide or enclosed ball play ground.

Being that this is happening in September, it will most likely be hot. Have a water area. Kids will love this. Sprinklers and a couple of those $15 wading pools that can be refilled easily would be fun. We could very easily set up a small area with squirt guns and water balloons so the kids could ambush eachother.

Petting zoo area?? Or Pony rides??

What about getting the youth group involved in creating home-made T-Shirts. Hand painted right there?? We could do the "Footprints" theme shirt and use their own feet to create the shirt design. Hands - for Helping Hands Help Others. Not one T-Shirt would be the same.

Have a board game tournement. We could promote this early on to get people to sign up in teams and have a small prize for the winner. Pick games that people can watch and enjoy in laughing at the antics. IE - Pictionary, Guesstures, MAD GAB. What about a Catholic Trivia Game?? How well do you know your religion? Make it like Jepardy. (I have no idea how to spell that game)

Scavenger Hunts for kids.

Anyhow, just ideas for thought! Kathy

Man girl, is your brain on overdrive today or what? Whistle

Great ideas but I think the Ferris Wheel would be well out of our budget.

Petting Zoo? Hmmm, unless people have a variety of pets to bring that are people friendly, like a nice dog, pig, turtle, hamster, rabbit, etc. Don't think renting animals would be cheap and there might be some sort of city ordinance we might have to check on for other types of animals.

Now the wading pools and water guns is a great and cheap idea and the kids would love it, even the teens.

I love the T-Shirt idea too and Janet Rathbone would be a good contact for that.

I think renting one of those inflatable ball rooms is spendy too.

The board game contest is pretty cool too and quite different. I like the idea of Catholic Jeopardy.

And the categories are......

Popes
Saints
Cathedrals
Holidays
Music

And I'll take Popes for a 100 Applause Seriously though that's an awesome idea.

We could try to get the Faris Wheel itself donated or get a hefty discount. No harm in asking. Of couse if we don't want a Faris Wheel, we can just drop that topic!

The pets may or may not be a good idea, if we went with that route of having people bring them, maybe we could have a best pet contest or something. I think that may be a little much though.

You would be surprised at the inflatable ball room, I think it could be rented for a specific time of day....like the 3-4 hours of the BBQ. Then we could take it down. I am guessing that it will be less than $300.

I think the Ferris Wheel might be a bit much. Got to remember we don't have that much room.

Here's the things I believe are feasable.

1. Prayer Balloons (this one is awesome)
2. Popcorn and/or Cotton candy machines
3. T-Shirt Painting for the kids
4. The water play area, wading pools, water guns, water balloons
5. Raffle for several different donated prizes
6. The Gift Table
7. Talent show during the BBQ
8. The Power Point presentation at the exhibit
9. Catholic Jeopardy...you gotta love that one. LOL

If you go look at the arial shot I posted you'll see how limited we really are on space.

You know we could have a puppet show, little kids really like puppet shows, maybe that's another thing the older kids from the youth group might like to do.

Been thinking about the T shirt idea and as good of an idea as it is, I'm thinking too messy with the paint and all. There's going to be enough to clean up afterwards. Clean up committee might not like the idea of maybe having to clean up paint too. Cause you know kids.Anxious

Maybe we could think of something else a little less messy. LOL

A spin off on that Scavenger Hunt you mentioned. We could maybe have a Treasure Hunt that the older youth could lead and hide cheap toys from the Dollar Tree all over the place. The teens could have a map with clues on it that they would read off to the kids and who ever gets to where that particular treasure is hidden first keeps the treasure. They do that until all the treasure is discovered. Of course the map would show the teens where the toys were hidden and the little kids would have to listen to the clues to figure it out.
